a place of one’s own
2008 - 2009

My first group of paintings is a space of my own, a first action in defense of personal pleasure and the act of painting. A Place of One's Own (titled after Virginia Woolf's essay) is made up of a set of youthful portraits; the naked bodies of my friends appear relaxed and playful. It is a first approach to the uncertain and invisible place that women occupy in the History of Painting and their very visible place as represented subjects. It is an intimate and general reflection on the notion of being a young woman in relation to painting.
