cries of pleasure and protest
2016 - 2025

Begun between 2013 and 2016 in Mexico, in the context of countless femicides, rapes, disappearances and torture, Gritos de Placer y de Protesta is a series of small-scale paintings of women’s orgasms that reclaim eroticism and the right to pleasure as a form of freedom and autonomy for all people, particularly women. According to Audre Lorde, eroticism is an undeniable power of life. In this small-format series, the female orgasm is a symbolic claim to the right to one’s own body and to enjoyment. It is both a ritual of empowerment and a reflection on death, pleasure and life.
